SUPPLEMENTAL AWARDS FOR ADDITIONAL TIME AND SUPPORT FOR CLINICAL ASSOCIATE
PHYSICAN (CAP) AWARDS (RR-99-008)

Release date: September 2, 1999

National Center for Research Resources

This notice is to inform the scientific community that a limited competition
RFA is being issued by the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR).
NCRR is requesting competitive supplemental applications for additional time
and support of one or two years from Clinical Associate Physician (CAP) and
Minority Clinical Associate Physician (MCAP) awardees that were awarded under
guidelines in effect prior to February 1, 1998. The previous guidelines
allowed only up to three years of support, whereas subsequent CAP guidelines
permit up to five years of support for mentored career development. Thus,
this funding opportunity is restricted to CAP/MCAP awardees that are currently
supported with a 3-year project period and those that completed 3 years of
training in fiscal year 1999.

Successful applications will be awarded as competitive supplements to the
General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) grant at the institution with which
the CAP is affiliated. The terms of support will follow the current CAP
guidelines, which are available from the NCRR website at
http://www.ncrr.nih.gov/clinical/cr_crcd.asp. The application deadline is
October 15, 1999. The proposed period of support is for 1 or 2
years, as determined by the request of the applicant and as recommended by the
GCRC peer review committee and the National Research Resources Advisory
Council. The dollar amount of the awards will depend on the number of
applications received, the availability of funds, and peer review
recommendations.
