LOCATION: Natcher Building (Building 45), 45 Center Drive, National

Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD 20892

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has established a Tuition

Payment Task Force to facilitate public input and develop individual

recommendations concerning the NIH policy on tuition reimbursements

on institutional National Research Service Award (NRSA) research

training grants (T32). The Tuition Payment Task Force will meet in

Bethesda, Maryland on April 10, 1995 to plan a Public Forum on

Tuition Reimbursements, which will be held on June 5, 1995 in the

Auditorium of the Natcher Building (Building 45) on the NIH Campus.

During the planning meeting, the Task Force will assist with the

design of the open forum, preparation of a list of participants, and

the identification of data and background information that will be

important for a discussion on tuition reimbursements.

The Task Force will officiate at the Public Forum, and will consider

testimony from all participants. Immediately following the Public

Forum, the Task Force will discuss the testimony, and each of the

members of the Task Force will develop individual recommendations

based on the information presented. All recommendations developed

will be addressed to the Deputy Director for Extramural Research,

NIH. All participants will understand in advance that the individual

recommendations are advisory and will not be used as a source of

consensus advice. If any of the resultant recommendations are

adopted, they will be built into future budget requests.

The June 5 Public Forum may be of interest to Directors of NRSA

research training programs, trainees supported by those programs,

officials at institutions receiving NRSA research training support,

organizations representing academic institutions, and other

interested parties. All interested individuals are welcome to

attend, limited to space available. Discussion of issues concerning

the cost of graduate education and the appropriate Federal share of

those costs will provide a basis for Task Force deliberations.
