Purpose

This Notice is to inform potential applicants that the Fogarty International Center (FIC):

1.    Has developed a list of answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).  The FAQs for this FOA can be found at http://www.fic.nih.gov/Programs/Pages/hiv-aids-research-training.aspx.  This information may be updated periodically without additional notice. NIH staff will also respond directly to potential applicants who contact the scientific program, peer review, or grants management staff listed in the Agency Contacts section of the FOA.

Is clarifying the following information relating to organizational eligibility and to application instructions for the PHS398 Research Training Program Plan section of PAR-12-070.

Section III. Eligibility Information

Only foreign institutions in low-and middle income countries are eligible to apply under this FOA. See http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-classifications/country-and-lending-groups for the countries defined as low-and middle-income.

Section IV. Application and Submission Information

Under Institutional Environment and Commitment to the Program (Component of Program Plan), applicants should Describe the institutional support and commitment to the goals of the training program by the applicant institution. The application should include a description of support (financial and otherwise) to be provided to the proposed planning grant and of potential support for a future training program. This could include, for example, space, shared laboratory facilities and equipment, funds for curriculum development, release time for the PD(s)/PI(s) and/or participating faculty, support for additional trainees in the program, or any other innovative approaches to improve the climate for the establishment and growth of the training program. Letters of support describing this support should be included under item 14: Letters of Support.
