Issued by

National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) on behalf of the NIH Common Fund (http://commonfund.nih.gov/).

Purpose

In order to potentially aid in application preparation, the purpose of this Notice is to inform how prospective U01 Applicants (RFA-RM-10-004 and RFA-RM-10-005) can access and inquire about existing LINCS Data.

The NIH Common Fund initiated a program to develop a “library” of molecular signatures, based on gene expression and other cellular changes that describe the response that different types of cells elicit when exposed to various perturbing agents. This program is known as LINCS - Library of Integrated Network-Based Cellular Signatures (http://commonfund.nih.gov/LINCS/).

The data production effort from two funded U54 centers has commenced recently (RFA-RM-10-003), and as such there is currently no publicly accessible database.  In order to help potential U01 applicants to the LINCS program via the two outstanding RFAs (Advanced Technologies for Detection of Perturbation-Induced Cellular Signatures RFA-RM-10-004; and Computational Tool Development and Integrative Data Analysis for LINCS RFA-RM-10-005), NIH and the LINCS U54 centers have made available details of their experiments, the experimental protocols along with meta-data and sample data. These can be found at:

Broad Data Set (PIs: Dr. Todd Golub & Dr. Wendy Winckler)

HMS Data Set (PIs: Dr. Tim Mitchison & Dr. Peter Sorger)

NIH will maintain a set of Frequently Asked Questions and responses about the datasets and any other questions about the outstanding RFAs. All questions received by NIH or the LINCS U54 centers will be answered and will be made publicly available at this website within a short period of time. The questions can be programmatic or about details of the data or experiments. Email contact information for the centers is available on the websites listed above. NIH Program contacts are listed in the RFAs (Dr. Jennie Larkin for RFA-RM-10-005 and Dr. Jennifer Couch for RFA-RM-10-004). Please keep checking the FAQ page for updated information.
