Purpose and Background

The purpose of this Notice is to indicate the intent to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) for the 2010 NIH Director’s Pioneer Award Program. It is also intended to alert prospective applicants of important changes to the application and review process.  This RFA will utilize the DP1 mechanism.  Pre-applications (X02) will no longer be required.
 The RFA is expected to be published in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts in August 2009 with an anticipated application receipt date of October 20, 2009. 

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.

Research Initiative Description

The goal of the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award Program is to support individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose pioneering – and possibly transforming – approaches to address major challenges in biomedical and behavioral research. Biomedical and behavioral research is defined broadly for this program as encompassing scientific investigations in the biological, behavioral, clinical, social, physical, chemical, computation, engineering, and mathematical sciences that can impact the public health.  Information about the Pioneer Award Program is at http://nihroadmap.nih.gov/pioneer/.
