Effective immediately and until further notice, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will accept investigator-initiated R01 research grant applications submitted on paper using PHS 398. Please note:
- Applications should be submitted as unsolicited applications using PHS 398 instructions http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html.
- Applications should be submitted to standard receipt dates http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-07-001.html.
- Applicants should name the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as the preferred recipient of their application in a cover letter. In addition they should insert "Occupational Safety and Health" on line 2 in the space after the word "Title:" on the face page of the 398 application form.
- Applications should not be submitted electronically. Only paper applications will be accepted.
- Applicants should submit a signed, typewritten original of the application, including the checklist, and five signed photocopies in one package to:

NIOSH’s prior R01 research grant program announcement, PA-04-038, has expired, and NIOSH plans to reissue the announcement.
- The areas of interest and priorities for occupational safety and health research at NIOSH have not changed. These are outlined on the NIOSH web site at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/oep/funding.html. (See Information for R01 Applicants).
- Applicants wishing to submit revisions for previous applications to PA-04-038 should also use PHS 398 paper applications and follow PHS 398 instructions
