Clarification on Required Budget Forms for Grant Applicants Submitting in Response to PA-07-318

Notice Number: NOT-OD-09-059

Key Dates
Release Date: March 9, 2009

Issued by
National Institutes of Health (NIH) (http://www.nih.gov)
Center for Disease Control and Prevention/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, (CDC/NIOSH) http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/

The purpose of this notice is to provide guidance for grant applicants submitting in response to PA-07-318 (Occupational Safety and Health Research) who plan to complete a Detailed Budget Form as part of their application.

The application package currently associated with PA-07-318 contains only the Modular Budget Form. The package does not include the Detailed Budget Form, which is required by some NIH applicants for successful submission. The existing application package associated with PA-07-318 cannot be modified or replaced without affecting all in-progress applications. Consequently, NIH and CDC will not update the application package until the upcoming March 5 receipt date for renewal, resubmission and revision has passed. Further information about changes to the application package will be provided as it becomes available.

In the meantime, applicants submitting for the March 5 receipt date whose submissions require the Detailed Budget Component are advised to apply using the R01 Parent Announcement (PA-07-070). Applicants utilizing this work-around should follow all guidelines for PA-07-318. Applicants should include a cover letter that clearly states their intent to respond to PA-07-318 and explains how the need to include the detailed budget form prompted their use of the R01 Parent Announcement.
Applicants who are unsure of which budget form their submission requires should see section 4.6 of the SF424 (R&R) Application Guide Selecting the Appropriate Budget Component.
