A representative from the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) will present at an educational workshop Hot Topics for Institutional Officials - on March 26, 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop is sponsored by Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R).

Hot Topics for Institutional Officials

This one-day workshop will focus on issues faced by Institutional Officials (IOs), their role of overseeing research protections programs to ensure the ethical conduct of research and maintenance of an effective compliance program.

The agenda is comprised of lectures and interactive discussions to provide strategies for understanding and discharging an IO’s regulatory responsibilities. The topics will explore the role of local IRBs and IACUCs in multi-site research projects, legal obligations of the IO, educational and training programs, conflicts of interest, and the structure of compliance offices. Updates will also be provided by representatives from OLAW and the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International.

Workshop venue

The workshop will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Atlanta, GA in conjunction with the PRIM&R 2008 Annual IACUC Conference.
