As we continue to transition paper applications to electronic submission using the SF424 (R&R) forms, a training event has been scheduled. The event will include a plenary presentation on December 5 combined with hands-on computer labs offered December 4 6, 2006.

Description: The plenary presentation will provide an overview of the electronic submission process and use of the SF424 (R&R) and agency-specific forms and walk participants through the submission process. The focus will be on lessons learned and sharing best practices for submitting applications online. The presentation is targeted towards research administrators, new and experienced investigators, post docs, trainees and anyone who will be applying for an NIH grant electronically. The plenary will provide a question and answer session with a panel of NIH electronic submission experts.
The computer lab session will provide hands-on instruction for NIH electronic submission of grant applications. Trainers will walk participants through the process as well as provide tips for avoiding common errors and offer advice from experience. The emphasis will be on finding and using the correct application package, following grant application instructions and reviewing the application prior to submission.

Objectives: Attendees will gain a better understanding of the requirements for NIH Electronic Submission.

December 5, 2006 two plenary sessions will be held at the Natcher Conference Center on the NIH Main Campus in Bethesda, Maryland that will be simultaneous videocast for remote viewing online. The afternoon session will be a repeat of the morning; applicants may choose to attend either the morning or afternoon session in person or online.

December 4 6, 2006 multiple computer labs will be offered for hands-on training. The 3 hour computer labs will be held at the NIH Main Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Applicants do not have to attend the plenary session in order to attend a lab. If unable to attend the plenary, it is recommended that applicants view the video Interacting Electronically with NIH prior to attending a lab. To watch videocasts, you will need the RealPlayer software from Real Networks. NIH staff can download Windows or Mac RealPlayer. Others can download this free RealPlayer.
