National Institutes of Health

The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, NIH (OLAW) will join the
Association of Primate Veterinarians (APV) and the American Association
of Laboratory Animal Practitioners (ASLAP) in co-sponsoring a workshop
entitled, "Emerging Uses of Nonhuman Primates in Biomedical Research."
It will be held on October 26, 2002, immediately preceding the annual
meeting of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science in
San Antonio, Texas. It will bring together top researchers from a
variety of specialties using nonhuman primates in cutting-edge science.
Innovative uses of these animals can pose challenges for Institutional
Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs) reviewing animal study
proposals and for veterinarians providing clinical care. Emerging
scientific uses of primates will be described as well as strategies for
IACUCs and veterinarians to ensure appropriate oversight and animal
well-being.

The program and registration information will be posted at
www.aslap.org.
