Purpose

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is requesting opinions from the US stroke research community regarding the European Multi-PART (Multicenter Preclinical Animal Research Team; www.multi-part.org) initiative.

Background

Multi-PART is a planning effort intended to generate infrastructure for an international preclinical stroke network. Its overall objective is to develop the capacity to undertake international multicenter animal studies to improve the validity and generalizability of current preclinical research. The consortium, a group of internationally recognized scientists with broad and comprehensive expertise, proposes to perform preclinical studies with the same rigor and centralized coordination that characterize multicenter Phase III randomized controlled clinical trials in humans. Creating such a network was identified as a cross-cutting priority at the 2012 NINDS Stroke Research Priorities Meeting (see http://www.ninds.nih.gov/find_people/ninds/OSPP/Stroke-Research-Priorities-Meeting-2012.htm, for a description of the recommendations developed at that conference).

Request for Information

Investigators actively conducting stroke research are encouraged to provide a brief description (not to exceed 2 pages) of their view regarding the benefits and risks for US stroke investigators for participating in Multi-PART, area(s) of expertise in stroke research, and potential contribution to the Multi-PART planning effort.
