NOTICE OF LIMITED COMPETITIION: RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE IN MINORITY INSTITUTIONS Release Date: May 7, 2002 Notice: NOT-MD-02-005 National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (http://ncmhd.nih.gov/) The National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) announces a limited competition for the renewals of Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions (RIMI) Programs. The receipt of a previous Phase II award under the RIMI Program is a pre-requisite for participation in this limited competition. The program was previously administered by the National Center for Research Resources and supported by the NCMHD. All activities related to the RIMI program were recently transferred to the NCMHD. The RIMI program focuses on building research capacity in predominantly minority-serving academic institutions that offer one or more baccalaureate and/or master's degrees in the sciences related to health. The program seeks to facilitate the integration of teaching and research with the ultimate aims of: 1) developing sustainable research programs and 2) enhancing the quality of the educational experience for the students in the life sciences and related areas. Awards under this competition will use the (P20) exploratory grant mechanism. The NCMHD plans to expand the RIMI Program to include other eligible institutions in fiscal year 2003.
