PURPOSE

The purpose of this addendum is to inform potential applicants of
clarification to the funding priorities for RFA-HS-02-003, published in the
NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts, on February 6, 2002,
(https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HS-02-003.html), titled
"Developmental Grants for Primary Care Practice-Based Research Networks
(PBRNs)," administered by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
(AHRQ). This RFA for Exploratory/Developmental Research (R21) awards
supports two categories of activities by primary care PBRNs: (1) development
or enhancement of network infrastructure, and (2) exploratory or pilot
research projects.

This announcement relates specifically to proposals for exploratory or pilot
research. The areas of investigation listed in the RFA, as being of
particular interest to AHRQ for such projects, include "network strategies
for assuring that new research evidence is translated into actual practice."

Since the release of the announcement, AHRQ has decided to further emphasize
this area of investigation. Funding priority will be given to applications
submitted under the RFA for exploratory or pilot research projects that
propose to: (1) identify and test effective and efficient strategies for
achieving measurable and sustainable improvements in health care through the
implementation of research evidence, and (2) measure the impact of these
translation efforts. The other award criteria listed in the RFA will also be
considered by AHRQ in making final funding decisions.
