Purpose

This Notice informs potential applicants of a change in duration for NHLBI AIDS research project grants and cooperative agreements. Effective immediately, the NHLBI will fund all AIDS-related applications funded from PAs and PARs (investigator-initiated AIDS-related) R01 competing applications, regardless of percentile or priority score, for four years or less. Hence, the NHLBI will no longer fund investigator-initiated AIDS related R01 awards for a 5-year period. The only exceptions to this policy are awards made to Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) and clinical trials with patient accrual and follow-up timelines that cannot be accomplished within four years.
