Purpose

The NHGRI intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for research resource projects to support a Data Coordination and Analysis Center to participate in the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Research Network (see: www.genome.gov/ENCODE). A Data Coordination component will develop, house and maintain databases to track, store and provide access to the data generated by the continuation of ENCODE Project and a Data Analysis component will coordinate and assist in the integrative analysis of data produced by the ENCODE Project. The FOA will call for separate applications for the two components and they will be funded separately, but will then be expected to coordinate their activities and function as a single Data Coordination and Analysis Center. The ENCODE Project is designed to produce a catalog of functional elements in the human and well-studied model organism genomes for use by the research community to expand on a fundamental understanding of the basic biological knowledge and to interpret disease mapping studies.

This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

The FOA is expected to be published in Autumn, 2011 with an expected receipt date in Autumn, 2011.

This FOA will utilize the U41 activity code. Details of the planned Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise and insights into this area of bioinformatics and computational biology to begin to consider applying for this new FOA. Collaborative investigations combining expertise in data management and dissemination, genomic data analysis, statistics, high-throughput functional genomics and model organism research will be encouraged and these investigators should also begin considering applying for this application.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
