Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform potential applicants of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)'s participation, effective immediately, in the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) RFA-NS-13-014 entitled, "Pilot Projects on Sports-Related Brain and Spinal Cord Injury (R21)."

Specific Areas of Research Interest
For this FOA, specific areas of research interest to NICHD include:

Studies on risk factors for sports-related head injury, including neurodevelopmental stage, the development of age appropriate (child, adolescent, and young adult) biomarker and diagnostic tools for learning disabilities or cognitive deficits, preclinical interventions to prevent or attenuate injury, and post-injury interventions to attenuate cognitive, learning, and behavioral deficits or promote neural plasticity.
