Purpose

Background

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit applications for P30 Centers for Diabetes Translational Research (CDTR). CDTRs will use the P30 Center grant mechanism which provides support for shared resources termed “cores” that enhance productivity and benefit a group of investigators working to accomplish the stated goals of the center. CDTRs should serve an established research base of funded investigators conducting diabetes related type II translational research (bedside to practice and the community) such as effectiveness, dissemination, implementation, and cost effectiveness research. Cores of the CDTR should provide unique resources and expertise to support investigators engaged in translation research aimed at prevention and improved treatment of diabetes and related conditions.  Applicants should also address how the services and resources of the proposed Cores will support and foster diabetes translational research (e.g. https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-09-176.htmlhttps://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-09-177.html, and https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-10-038.html).

This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive P30 applications.

The RFA is expected to be published in the summer of 2010.

This RFA will utilize the P30. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise and insights relevant to diabetes translation research to begin to consider applying for this new RFA.  Examples of CDTR Core expertise relevant to enhancing and supporting diabetes type II translation research might include design and analysis issues in translational research (e.g. quasi-experimental designs, adaptive or practical clinical trials, modeling, analyses for complex designs and data systems, health economic analysis), methodologies such as community engagement or Community Based Participatory Research, measurement at various levels (e.g. individual, family, system, community, healthcare practitioner) and dissemination and implementation science. Topic level Core expertise might include such areas as adherence, health information technology, health disparities, health literacy and/or numeracy, technology based approached to intervention delivery or measurement, diabetes self management, lifestyle change, and health communication.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
