National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) http://www2.niddk.nih.gov/

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) plans to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) in the fall of 2007 for the purpose of extending the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN) funded by NIDDK since September 2003. The DILIN has made major advances in the study the epidemiology and clinical spectrum of hepatotoxicity due to drugs and the RFA will seek the continuation of DILIN and the expansion of the network up to 8 clinical centers in order to: 1) Enhance the enrollment of cases and controls from a diverse demographic and geographic distribution. 2) Perform pharmacogenetic analysis and develop the bioinformatics infrastructure needed to find phenotypic-genotypic associations and disseminate the information to the scientific community at large. 3) Encourage prospective studies to validate promising predictive biomarkers or genetic “fingerprints” and 4) Support ancillary and mechanistic studies that confirm and expand preliminary phenotypic-genotypic associations.

The RFA is expected to be published in November 2007 with an expected receipt date in March 2008.
