Purpose

PAR-14-010 “Identification of Gene Variants for Addiction Related Traits by Next-Generation Sequencing in Model Organisms Selectively Bred for Addiction Traits (UH2/UH3)" encourages applications to develop strategies and methodologies to sequence, map, and conduct genomic analysis of established phenotypes of selectively bred animal models with addiction traits, and to identify from new or existing selectively bred animal models, genetic variants with implications for addiction related traits.  This Notice is to inform interested organizations and investigators that changes have been made to increase both the funding level and funding length for the UH2 phase of this FOA.

Starting with the June 30, 2014, application due date, applicants can request up to $185,000 each year for up to three years in the UH2 phase.

If sufficient progress has been made investigator may submit a UH3 request sooner than 3 years.

Investigators may request funds for genotyping during the UH2 phase.

The funding period for the UH3 period remains at one year.

Investigators proposing to make knock-in or knockout strains for addiction phenotypes should apply to Functional Genetics, Epigenetics, and Non-coding RNAs in Substance Abuse - PA-14-014 (R01)  or Functional Genetics, Epigenetics, and Non-coding RNAs in Substance Abuse - PA-14-013 (R21).

Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their application with the Scientific/Research staff listed in the FOA before submitting an application and provide evidence of the genetic architecture of the trait.

All other aspects of the FOA remain the same.
