Purpose

The purpose of this notice is to clarify the eligibility of individuals who may serve as Research Project Directors on individual DIDARP research projects.

To be eligible to serve as a Research Project Director on an individual research project within a DIDARP award, the individual cannot currently be nor have been within the last five years a principal investigator on an NIH research project (R01), program project (P01), center grant, sub-project of a program project (P01) or center grant, or the equivalent.  Former principal investigators of an NIH Small Grant (R03), AREA Grant (R15), Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21), NIH Individual NRSA fellowship (F30, F31, F32) or mentored career development award (K01, K08, K23, K25, K99/R00) remain eligible.  Individuals who are currently or have been within the last five years principal investigators on one or more major NIH research grants and who may not serve as Research Project Directors on DIDARP awards, as indicated above, are eligible to serve as Associate Project Directors on DIDARP awards and may request DIDARP funds to support students on their currently funded major research awards.
