Examples of research studies that would be of interest to the NCI include, but are not necessarily limited to, those designed and conducted to:

  • identify and characterize gene (or epigene)-environment (diet and alcohol) interactions that influence risk for cancer in humans;
  • determine the role(s) of nutrition-alcohol interactions in the fetal origins of chronic disease, including cancer;
  • identify drinking and eating patterns that interact to influence cancer risk;
  • explore the relationship(s) between alcohol consumption, gene regulation (such as microRNA expression and/or epigenetic modulation), and cancer risk;
  • examine the relationship(s) between chronic alcohol ingestion, weight gain (and obesity), and cancer risk; and/or
