The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is the premier national health survey preformed annually by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), a part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Given the major public health implications associated with growing use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and partner National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutes and Offices have supported collection of reliable national data on CAM use by the American public as part of the 2002 and 2007 NHIS.  The CAM data from the 2002 NHIS are currently available on the NCHS website as public use files:  http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhis.htm.  Public use files for the 2007 NHIS CAM dataset are expected to be available in the summer of 2008.  Survey questionnaires for both the 2002 and 2007 NHIS are available at:  http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhis.htm. 

NCCAM and other NIH Institutes accept research grant applications to support secondary analyses of these datasets.  Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts for specific funding opportunities:  https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/index.html.
