Purpose

This notice provides registration information for the 2010 BioMed-ISS pre-application meeting described in PAR-09-120: Biomedical Research on the International Space Station (BioMed-ISS) (UH2/UH3). The next receipt date for this funding opportunity is September 30, 2010.

As part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) ISS Payload Integration Academy (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/science/nlab/nlab_conferences.html), NASA and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are organizing a session in the Academy for the 2010 BioMed-ISS pre-application/technical interchange meeting to facilitate interaction between prospective applicants and implementation partners with experience in preparing experiments for transportation to and implementation on the ISS.

The NASA ISS Payload Integration Academy will:

  1. Provide new ISS Principal investigators (PIs), Project Scientists (PSs) and Payload Developers (PDs) a good understanding of the NASA ISS Payload Planning, Integration and Operations Process
  2. Help Shuttle PIs, PSs and PDs who performed science onboard the Shuttle, but not yet on ISS, upgrade their Shuttle payload process knowledge to ISS.
  3. Inform PIs, PSs, and PDs about several services that the NASA ISS Payloads Office has available as part of the overall Payload Integration Process to help them during their payload integration process for a successful vehicle-payload integration and on-orbit operations.
  4. Educate the participants about available ISS research opportunities and the process to follow to seek out these opportunities from the following agencies: NASA, NIH and NSF.

All prospective applicants are highly encouraged to attend in person because it is the most efficient way for investigators who are not familiar with ISS facilities to match their needs with existing research equipment and the implementing organizations familiar with spaceflight. NIH and NASA staff will be on site to explain the goals and objectives for the BioMed-ISS program and answer questions.
