DESCRIPTION

The Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID), National 
Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH, DHHS, has a 
requirement for the design, development, maintenance and continual updating 
of several Bioinformatic Resource Centers.  Multiple awards are contemplated.  
Each of the Bioinformatic Resource Centers will include databases for at 
least five (5) microorganisms.  These scientific databases will provide the 
scientific community with research resources, which will provide access to a 
large amount of genomic and related data to facilitate the identification of 
potential targets for the development of vaccines, therapeutics and 
diagnostics.  These databases will also enable comparative analysis of 
genomes to allow the identification of genetic polymorphisms that correlate 
with phenotypes such as pathogenicity, drug resistance, morbidity and 
infectivity.  The databases must be accessible to the scientific community 
via an Internet website, serving as international resources for both genomic 
sequence data and related functional data.  Organisms of particular interest 
are the NIAID Category A-C priority pathogens 
(http://www2.niaid.nih.gov/Biodefense/bandc_priority.htm)
and those causing emerging and re-emerging diseases.

It is anticipated that the period of performance for the contracts will be 
five (5) years each, beginning approximately on February 1, 2004.

February 6, 2003 and may be accessed through the NIAID Contract Management 
Branch (CMB) Home Page at http://www.niaid.nih.gov/contract.  Once at the

NIAID-DMID-04-34.  It will also be posted on FedBizOpps at: 
http://www.fedbizopps.gov.  

Responses to this RFP will be due on June 2, 2003.  Any responsible Offeror 
may submit a proposal, which will be considered by the Government.  This 
advertisement does not commit the Government to award a contract.    No
